Systems
The Area Control Systems are separate sensor, master sensor and control units designed to cover large or awkwardly shaped areas which cannot be served with stand-alone units. A minimum system consists of two units, an SMS1, System Master Sensor, and an SPC1, System Power Controller. Up to 10 extra PIR sensors can be added to give the additional coverage. Two types are available SCS1, System Ceiling Sensor, and SWS1, System Wall Sensor. The SPC1s are Mains driven with a one, two or three power relay outputs capable of switching 8 Amps of inductive lighting loads. The sensors, however are all 12V DC. The SMS1 master sensors have the all the standard capabilities: Passive Infra-Red heat detecting occupancy sensing. Light level sensing. Active Infra-Red remote control sensing. They are setup and configured by the Infra-Red remote control system which can also be used to override the unit if required. ![]() An alternate version of the Area Control System is available where two areas are controlled with two independant light levels. This is specifically designed for large rooms or areas where one part has a lot of natural daylight (say alongside windows) compared to the remainder (which might be against internal blank walls). For this system the master sensor becomes an SMS1L and the only powercontroller is the SPC1/2L. The full list of Area System Components is: SPC1-System Power Controller. SPC1/1-System Power Controller with one 8 Amp output. SPC1/2-System Power Controller with two 8 Amp outputs. SPC1/3-System Power Controller with three 8 Amp outputs. SPC1/2L-System Power Controller with two light zones and two 8 Amp outputs. SMS1-System Master Sensor. SMS1L-System Master Sensor-for two light zone system. SCS1-System Ceiling Sensor. SWS1-System Wall Sensor. The Area Control System family: Three types of controller are available SPC1/1, SPC1/2 and SPC1/3. They are respectively 1,2 and 3 zones. Each zone is controlled by an individual System Master Sensor with extra System Ceiling or Wall Sensors to cover the required area. All the wiring between the SPC1, SMS1 and SCS1 and/or SWS1 is in low voltage screened cable, which enables the various components to be placed exactly where they are most effective. The SPC1 may be fitted into a mains cabinet to simplify the mains wiring whilst the sensors will be fitted on the ceiling and walls. Each relay can handle 8 Amps of inductive loading and by commoning the inputs extra relay outputs may be utilised for a single zone i.e. if two different phases of mains are being used. There is one corridor link output per SPC1 which is activated whenever any input on the SPC1 is triggered. This may be used to drive an input on another SMS1. To reiterate: A minimum system consists of an SPC1/1 plus a single SMS1. This may be expanded to cover a large or irregular area by using up to ten SCS1 or SWS1 sensors. An SPC1/2 will require two SMS1 masters (plus possible slaves). The SPC1/3 will require three SMS1 masters but because of circuit requirements no extra slaves can be used at present. Sensor Fitting Variations: The SMS1F and SCS1F are flush fitting units for mounting directly into ceiling tiles from 2mm to 20mm thick with a single 54mm mounting hole. They are supplied as standard with 2 metres of two core screened cable. All F variants can be modified to a K with a spring Klip kit to allow for single sided fitting. The SMS1S and SCS1S are for surface mounting and come complete with a receptacle fitted with a standard 20mm round conduit entry. The receptacle is mounted on the ceiling and wired in before the sensor is plugged into place. The sensors have also been designed so that they can be pushed home or removed even when the power is on. Zone Control Using Light Level: A special version of the Area Control System, with an L suffix, exists which is for the control of two zones by light level. This may be used for a room with windows on one side only. The zone furthest from the windows is set to come on at a higher light level than the zone by the windows to equalise the lighting across the room. The controller for this system is the SPC1/2L with two relays of 8 Amps inductive loading capability. A special System Master Sensor, the SMS1L, must be used but any extra sensors that may be required are the standard SCS1 or SWS1 devices. As the SMS1L is responsible for the dual light level control then unlike the standard SPC1/2, only one master is used per SPC1/2L. All the SPC1 units are fitted onto a double ganged pattress plate. This can be fitted to most double ganged pattress boxes providing the internal depth is greater than 32mm. Greenlite supply a box with each SPC1.
